LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION TRAINING

NEW ONLINE BLENDED LEARNING FORMAT!


This course teaches American Red Cross waterpark lifeguarding skills and how to respond and prevent emergency situations using both in person skills sessions and online eLearning content.  The class will meet to complete the pre-requisite skills (below) and then will be given 5 days to complete all eLearning content (online) before their first in person skills session meeting on Thursday. All eLearning content must be completed before the first in person skills session. Certification includes: Lifeguard Certification, Waterpark Certification, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Bloodborne Pathogens Training. Saturday and Sunday’s classes will include a break for lunch.  Attendance at all 5 classes per session is mandatory. *The Lodge is an American Red Cross Authorized Provider for training courses. All courses are Pass/Fail and no exceptions can be made. If a participant does not pass the prerequisite course requirements, a full refund will be issued. If a participant continues in the course beyond the prerequisite skills and does not pass, no refund will be issued.* Prerequisite Course Requirements:  Must swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Must tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs with hands placed under the armpits. Must complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

CERTIFICATION REQUEST


Participants must provide a valid e-mail address and will receive their certification in 7 - 10 business days. The Lodge does not keep copies of certifications. If you require a duplicate copy, please contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit the American Red Cross website

PRE-REQUISITE COURSE REQUIREMENTS


Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Must tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits. 
Must complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. 
  • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
  • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
  • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

New Covid-19 Procedures

All participants (and parent/guardian) are required to wear a face covering while in The Lodge, for the duration of the class when not participating in in-water activities. All participant and guardians will have their temperature checked on each visit and screened for COVID-19 symptoms.  Lifeguard candidates will have a class of 10 students or less to allow for proper social distancing.  Lifeguard training equipment will be disinfected before and after class and will stay with the student for the duration of the class day.
