Forestry

After work session presentations and discussion on March 11 and April 22, 2019, the Board of Aldermen adopted a Forestry Plan on April 22, 2019.  A contract with Gamma Tree Services to execute Phase 1 of the plan was approved at the April 8, 2019 Board of Aldermen meeting and the work was executed later in the year.

As explained in this update, Phase 2 was scheduled to take place in 2020, but was then postponed due to budgetary cutbacks related to COVID-19. The Streets Division removed dead ash trees in 2020 and "Very Poor" trees in winter 2021-2022.Gamma removed 57 more ash trees in 2021 and planted 123 (making up for those removed internally).

Phase 3 is included in the FY 2022 budget. Gamma will remove around 60 trees again, then plant new trees to replace those as well as the ash removed internally.

For an explanation of how Street Trees are owned by the City, please see the article on page 5 of the January 2021 Newsletter.

EAB FLYER 5-9-19

You may have seen one of these signs on a tree in your neighborhood.  This is part of our effort to educate the public on the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), and the need to remove ash trees from our urban forest.  More detailed information is available in the Forestry Plan and from other agencies such as the Missouri Dept. of Agriculture and the Missouri Dept. of Conservation
