CITY HONORS PSO HASKINS ON RETIREMENT AFTER 39 YEARS
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen honored Public Safety Officer Ed Haskins on the occasion of his retirement after 39 years with the city. Director of Public Safety William Bridges presents PSO Haskins with a departmental plaque containing his police shield.
PSO Haskins has worked for the city since June 1969 and has served in every position within the Department of Public Safety during his tenure including a period as Acting Director of Public Safety. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. He helped create the Neighborhood Watch Program before the concept of Community Oriented Policing came in vogue. He was an active participant in the National Police Olympics and brought a number of gold medals back to Des Peres in the early 1980’s.
Nearly 70 current and former members of the Department of Public Safety attended the meeting to honor PSO Haskins demonstrating the great level of respect he earned from among his peers. During his 39 years, PSO Haskins received numerous commendations and was selected on three occasions as Officer of the Year by his fellow employees.
Congratulations to PSO Ed Haskins and best wishes in his retirement… Ed will be missed but not forgotten. His legacy as a mentor and leadership by example will continue.
