Chief Keith L. Krumm 

Director of Public Safety

Chief Krumm is a 31year veteran in the Department of Public Safety, including 26 years in a supervisory or command role.  He has served as a Watch Commander in the Bureau of Field Operations, as Detective Lieutenant, as Captain of Administrative and Support Services for 20 years, and as Emergency Management Director.  He has a Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement Administration and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Personal Statement

Concerning Public Safety Department

"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity being afforded me to head this department, and to lead an outstanding group of men and women in a team approach to serve the citizens of Des Peres. We take our responsibility to this community very seriously and pledge to work tirelessly to continue to serve the public in an efficient and professional manner. The safety and security of our residents are paramount. We have an outstanding department. My goal is to make it better and more involved in the community."

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety is a functionally integrated department offering police, fire, and emergency medical services.  All members of the Department, except specialized personnel, are fully cross-trained and certified in all three professions.  The Director of Public Safety serves as both Chief of Police and Fire Chief.  Chief Krumm is the sixth director to head the department over a 50year period.

Personal Statement Concerning Cross-Training

"The beauty of Public Safety is that the officer who responds first to the scene of any emergency event has the skills to assess what needs to be done and to initiate action before other personnel and equipment are on the scene.  Cross-training also provides a large group of employees who can be deployed for major emergencies that would otherwise overwhelm a traditional police or fire department."

Police Operations Commander

I have been with the City of Des Peres since 1990. During my employment with the Public Safety Department, I have served as a Public Safety Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, Shift Sergeant, and Support Services Lieutenant. I hold a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Concordia University. In 2000, my application was accepted at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where I completed the Fire Inspector's Course. I am also certified by the State of Missouri as a Fire Instructor, HAZMAT Technician, and Fire Officer I and II.

In 2001, I was promoted to the rank of Captain, Commander of the Fire/EMS Services, and have been involved with the safety management challenges associated with the redevelopment of Westfield
Shoppingtown West County.

In 2015, I was transferred to the position of Commander of Police Operations after having graduated the FBI National Academy in December.

Fire and EMS Commander


I have been employed with the City of Des Peres since 1997, and during my career at
Des Peres, I have served as a Public Safety Officer, Corporal , Lieutenant – Shift Commander, and Lieutenant  - Support Services Commander.  As Support Services Commander I managed the Missouri Police Chiefs Certification project which will lead to the department being awarded the certification in 2016. 

In October, 2015, I was promoted to my current position, Captain – Commander of Fire & EMS Services.  I hold a Masters of Science Degree in Management from Lindenwood University, am a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program through the National Fire Academy, and designated as a Chief Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
